On Tuesday, March 4th, the Choir Boosters held their monthly meeting in the choir room at 7:00 PM. Minutes from the meeting are now online. Items discussed included: camcorder donation, choir banquet, Susan Emig scholarship, contest concert, helping with ISSMA contest at Pierce, and fundraiser performance of contest artist Following the meeting, there was a mandatory meeting for everyone attending the New York Trip.
President, Mary Kennedy, called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone. Meeting started with several students performing their state ISSMA selection for the parents and students attending the meeting. Performing were Rebecca Ternes, Jennifer Mustafa, Jenny Festa, and Shakya Wiley.
Meeting minutes from the February 4, 2003 meeting were read and accepted.
Treasurer's Report was read. Balance of $13,587.89 Transactions this past month included a deposit of $63.40 for water sold and $325.00 towards the Susan Emig Scholarship Fund. Most of the remaining funds are deposits for the New York trip.
Video camera donation to the Merrillville School Corp. has been completed. Mr. Emig will have custody of the camera
Received $100.00 for the donated time to the Festival of Lights
Velveteen pictures orders are due March 7th
Senior Pictures and biographies for the spring program are due March 15th
Winter Concert video is available for $7.00
The Vocalteen performance at Jazz and Java Concert has been canceled.
Choralteen trip to Saline, Michigan has been cancelled.
Senior baby pictures are needed for the memories video.
Tom would like any input in regards to the Web page. He also would like pictures, choir students in the news, newspaper articles, etc. The web page is at www.merrillvillechoir.com
Banquet plans are coming together. The committee is looking for a keepsake for the students. Still interested in ways to get the underclassmen more interested in the banquet
Ideas for the Susan Emig Memorial Scholarship fund were discussed. A proposal is being drafted to establish the requirements to obtain the scholarship. It is recommended that the Merrillville High School graduating student would have to be active in choir. They would have to be persueing post secondary education in the field of music, preferably music education. The committee will continue working on this project.
Contest Concert is March 20th at 7:30 p.m. $5.00 per person, $4.00 for Senior Citizens and students. A $20.00 family pass will also be sold. We will need help in all areas. We will be asking for donations of bottled water and finger deserts rather then pies for the concession at this concert. Ad books will be passed out. Mandatory dress rehearsals are March 18 & 19.
ISSMA Organizational Contest will be held April 12th at Pierce. They are in need of parental help.
Justin Kolb, who is a Concert Artist, recently spoke with the students. He did a wonderful presentation that was enjoyed by all attending. Mr. Emig is recommending that they have Mr. Kolb back to do a recital at the high school on Sept. 21st. He feels this could be a very successful fundraiser. General consensus was favorable to use this as a fundraiser.
Nominations for next year's officers will take place at the April 8th meeting. This meeting will be held a week later due to spring break.
