ISSMA LogoMany members from the Merrillville High School Choirs competed in the ISSMA Solo and Ensemble Contest held at Wheeler High School on February 8th. Collectively, Merrillville students performed 23 first place vocal solos, 1 first place piano solo, 7 first place ensembles, 24 second place vocal solos, 2 second place piano solos and 2 third place vocal solos.

Members of the Merrillville High School Choral Department competed at the ISSMA Solo and Ensemble contest held at Wheeler High School Saturday, February 8, 2003. In summary, Merrillville choir students were awarded 23 first place vocal solos, 1 first place piano solo, 7 first place ensembles, 24 second place vocal solos, 2 second place piano solos and 2 third place vocal solos.

Students receiving a first place rating and qualifying for state competition in Indianapolis March 1 are Stephanie Bigelow, Tristan Congress, Jenni Festa, Sarah Kennedy, Megan Kors, Samantha Loo, Demetria Massengil, Jennifer Mustafa, Trevy Ramos, Evangelina Rojo, Jennifer Slivka, Laura Sopko, Fontaine Stegall, Kathleen Szot, Rebecca Ternes, Shakiya Wiley, and Elexas Wise. Other vocal first place ratings were awarded to Vincent Cole, Ali Conquest, Kris Greene, Natalie Madrid, Paige Patterson, and Brandon Waldrop.

Seven ensembles also received first place ratings: Festa trio (Heather Cooper, Jenni Festa and Jacquline Hartford), Thomas trio (Emily Czekala, Brandi Klein and Ashley Thomas), Aloia group (Erica Aloia, Jessica Francis, Nikki Kraska, Stephanie Pavlish, Samantha Ratley, and Lauren Rees), Rees quartet (Ali Conquest, Katie Kaplar, Samantha Ratley, and Lauren Rees), Festa sextet (Jennifer Agoris, Heather Cooper, Felice Graves, Jacqueline Hartford, and Evangelina Rojo), Davis trio (AJ Davis, Ben Graves and Keith Murphy) and the Johnson trio (Tara Johnson, Jodi Suggs, and Andrea Vela).

Second place ribbons were awarded to vocal soloists Christine Aloia, Heather Casady, Christine Davis, Keith Eaton, Asia Howerton, Taneisha Kirk, Nikki Jimenez, Randy Johnson, Rebecca Longacre, Brandon Loudemilk, Ineke McMillan, Nicole Murphy, Nicole Olivares, Jamie Ortiz, Melissa Paniaguas, Heather Phillippe, Carmen Pickett, Jade Pickett, Scott Shelhart, Aimee Street, Shaun Wood, Samantha Yurechko, and Jeffrey Zweig.

Soloists Sarah Kennedy and Jacqueline Hartford received second place ratings for their piano solos.

Rebecca Evans and Casey Seib were awarded third place ratings for their vocal solos.
