Contest Concert Rehearsal PictureComing March 20th... The Merrillville High School Choirs present their annual Contest Concert, featuring award-winning soloists and ensembles from the ISSMA contest, in addition to classical choral selctions, including the music the choir will be singing in New York.

Choralteen Rehearsal PictureThe Choralteens have selected the composer John Leavitt (University of Missouri) and his magnificent multi-meter choral selections to communicate excitement and rhythmic adventure to the audience. Most of the pieces are done in Latin and are selections from his Mass written for a Wisconsin Festival Choir. You won't want to miss these exciting pieces done with sensitivity and dynamic nuances.

Velveteen Rehearsal PictureThe Velveteens are featuring as their show case number a piece by Aaron Copland, one of the most famous American composers of the last century. Copland and the choir will try to communicate instrumental sounds from the wild west in a truly "hoe down" atmosphere while some nonsense syllables are used to emulate western instruments. The open fifths and repetitive melodies will want to make the audience strap on their chaps, mount their horses, and stroll through this western adventure. As if there isn't enough variety in this selection, the next piece by the Velveteens will also be done in Latin and it features the classical composer Franz Josef Haydn.

Contest Concert Rehearsal PictureThe concert grand finale is a rendition of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" which features a male chorus middle section where the male choir members once again will involve you in the message through dynamic nuances.

Contest Concert Rehearsal PictureTicket prices are $5 for adults and $4 for students and senior citizens. Reinhart Auditorium at 7:30 PM is the place to be this Thursday evening for what we hope will be one of the most memorable concerts done at the high school this year. Don't miss it!
